Graphic Design is a course that explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design; as well as, the design process, from idea development through the final execution of a document. Professionals use the concepts explored in this course in the following disciplines: advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography and game design and many others. Assessment will be based upon a rubric that takes into consideration effort, technical understanding and creative use of resources for the completion of various assignments.
Graphics And Design Basics
The basic design elements of 2-D art are presented; this includes line, color, shape, form, texture and space. Students learn the organizational principles involved in the design of all visual compositions, including variety, emphasis, unity, balance and contrast.
Image editing refers to modifying or improving digital or traditional photographic images using different techniques, tools or software. Images produced by scanners, digital cameras or other image-capturing devices may be good, but not perfect.
A bitmap (also called “raster”) graphic is created from rows of different colored pixels that together form an image. In their simplest form, bitmaps have only two colors, with each pixel being either black or white. A bitmap is a type of memory organization or image file format used to store digital images. The term bitmap comes from the computer programming terminology, meaning just a map of bits, a spatially mapped array of bits.
The term “vector graphics” is mainly used today in the context of two-dimensional computer graphics. It is one of several modes an artist can use to create an image on a raster display. Vector graphics can be uploaded to online databases for other designers to download and manipulate, speeding up the creative process.
Photoshop is Adobe’s photo editing, image creation and graphic design software. The software provides many image editing features for raster (pixel-based) images as well as vector graphics. It uses a layer-based editing system that enables image creation and altering with multiple overlays that support transparency.
Image calibration is achieved by placing the calibration marks on two points that are a known distance apart, and entering the actual distance spanned by the points in centimeters. An image can be recalibrated during analysis without work loss.
Corel Corporation developed and released a software program called CorelDRAW, a vector graphics editor. The software is a robust graphics suite, providing many features for users to edit graphics. These features include contrast adjustment, color balancing, adding special effects like borders to images, and it is capable of working with multiple layers and multiple pages.
3D computer graphics, or three-dimensional computer graphics, are graphics that use a three-dimensional representation of geometric data that is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering 2D images. The resulting images may be stored for viewing later or displayed in real time.
Adobe Bridge software is a powerful, easy-to-use media manager for visual people. Adobe Bridge helps clear the clutter and lets you focus on what’s critical with features such as the Filter Panel, which lets you quickly locate assets by attributes such as file type, camera settings, and ratings.
Corel Photo-Paint is a raster graphics editor developed and marketed by Corel since 1992. Corel currently markets the software for Windows operating systems, previously having marketed versions for Linux (Version 9, requiring Wine) and Mac OS (through version 11). Its primary market competitor is Adobe Photoshop.
Intro. To Cartooning
Cartooning is the art of clarity, simplification, caricature, and pantomime. One of the earliest forms of illustration, cartoons can be humorous, serious, satirical, bizarre, featured in , film, online or any other visual media. Cartooning is a simple yet powerful and fun way to express yourself through art.
Intro. To Autocad
AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application. Developed and marketed by Autodesk, AutoCAD was first released in December 1989 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. AutoCAD is used to create the computer aided designs or software applications including drafting. – AutoCAD develops the application in both the 2D and 3D formats and provide the information to the application.
Animation And Motion Graphics
Motion graphics are a type of animation. While motion graphics describes moving or animated graphic design, animation is an umbrella term for the whole field of moving imagery, including everything from cartoons to claymation. We’ll also explain when to use which term when talking about motion graphics and animation.
